Degrees Of Freedom

Collection cover image

Most of this music was written around the time Phil got married to his wife Jude. The purpose of the album was to explore compositions with more structured chord sequences, and how this meets elements of freedom within the music. The recording featured Phil's at the time Scottish-based Quartet of Paul Harrison on piano, Aidan O'Donnell on bass, now a long-time New York resident and Stu Ritchie on drums- now living and playing in the south of France. It was recorded in the house Phil and Jude moved into after their marriage in Glenkinchie, with a grand piano being brought in for the session, and engineer Dave Keay running cables through the kitchen from mikes to desk!
