Swings and Roundabouts
Welcome to Phil Bancroft's Myriad Streams; a calm place to listen to music! The streamable playlist of Phil's music below is always free- and refreshes every few weeks; like a sonic magazine.
Recorded in August 1996 at Pierhouse Studios in Granton, Edinburgh. In 1995, Phil had played with Steve Watts at the Glasgow Jazz Festival, and had spent time on the New York scene, where he met drummer Marcello Pellitteri. He felt a deep musical connection with both, so chose them for his first album as leader. Legendary promoter DJ Kulu put the trio on for a week at Henry's Cellar Bar during that year's Edinburgh festival, and after a week of gigs, they hit the studio. The initial release, in 1997, on the launch of Caber Records, was messed up. Through a newbie label mistake, review copies were sent out after the launch/release, so all the major publications refused to review the album at all. The music deserved a proper release, and now is the time, 28 years and 26 days after it was recorded. Good things come to those who wait. Please enjoy the connection between these three wonderful musicians, and hear Phil Bancroft's free blowing style as a young man at the age of 29 years old. Wonderful!!!

Swings & Roundabouts | 05:39 | × This was the title track of Phil's first release as leader. One of the 3 albums released at the launch of Caber Music in 1998, a newbie mistake meant review copies were sent out after release, so the major national jazz press wouldn't review the album. The album never had a chance- until now. Slated for release next year on Myriad Streams, this album is a wonderful document of Phil's looser freer early style, lines hanging in the air, wonderful rhythmic freedom and freshness of line. His bandmates are perfect foils- Marcello Pellitteri's extraordinary drumming sometimes hangs in time, and Steve Watts intensely melodic bass lines provide an instinctive partnership with Phil's lines. We are very proud of this track and this album- Please enjoy!! Contributors: Phil Bancroft; Drum Kit: Marcello Pellitteri; Acoustic Bass: Steve Watts; | |

Untitled | 07:07 | × This version of the unnamed composition was it's first recording on Phil's Trio album Swings and Roundabouts, which had a failed release at Caber Records launch. It features the melodic beauty of Steve Watt\s bass lines and soloing, and the incisive intelligence of Marcello Pellitteri's beautiful drumming, The composition was later featured on Trio AAB's album, Cold Fusion.
